On Monday, September 23, we gathered at the Can Poeti estate, near the Brugent River, to participate in a practical session using the Eudemon game. In addition to the CST, members of various cooperatives and associations involved in nature-related activities and present in the region, such as Resilience Earth, Anigami, Fundació Emys, and Miceli, also attended. A local resident of Can Poeti and employees from the La Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park were also present.
The activity was led by the Eudemon project team, a CST spin-off headed by Sigrid Muñiz and Jaume Moya. Together, they developed a card game designed as a tool to facilitate mediation processes in socio-ecological conflicts. The game creates a fictional scenario where, through consensus, participants aim to find the best way to manage the posed conflict. For those interested in learning more or requesting a copy of the game (available for free in PDF format or for €12 in print), we encourage you to visit their website.
On this occasion, the game was used to address the issue of access to nature along the Brugent River, specifically during summer, when the river’s pools become overcrowded, causing significant environmental stress.
The game was very well received by participants. At the end of the session, the value placed on exchanging ideas and thoughts was highlighted as a positive aspect. Although this exchange may slow the game's pace, it adds value to the decisions made collectively. Additionally, the game’s dynamic introduces external challenges that require creativity, providing good training for potential real-life crisis scenarios. The time limit (1 hour) pushes participants to advance in the mediation process, emphasizing the need to make practical decisions and move from thought to action. The hour tends to stretch, often requiring an additional fifteen minutes, primarily because a space of trust must first be built among participants, as would happen in a real-life mediation table: for the process to develop properly, participants need to feel comfortable expressing their views and opinions so they can actively participate in decision-making.
Parallel to this event, the recording team from Panorama.Comunitat, a content creation platform focused on environmental topics with accounts on Instagram and TikTok, was invited to Can Poeti. They recorded a brief video explaining the experience, which we encourage you to watch at this link.
Lastly, we want to emphasize the long-standing relationship between CST and the Can Poeti space. Hydrogeologist Mireia Jiménez, a member of the CST technical team, is working on her PhD on new forms of governance and river stewardship applied to the Brugent River basin. Among the initiatives undertaken, a stewardship agreement has been signed between CST and the Can Poeti estate, and environmental education activities have been conducted with students from nearby schools. We hope that this bond will continue over time and that Can Poeti can become a laboratory for exploring new ways of relating to nature, to foster a respectful and balanced coexistence.

This activity was supported by the Girona Provincial Council.
