The objectives of the workshop were:

• To provide an open forum for discussion among researchers, managers, professionals, and students.

• To address aspects related to the preservation and management of geological heritage and geodiversity, including, in a broad and multidisciplinary manner, geology, geoconservation, geotourism, and related sociocultural aspects.

• Sessions that combined presentations and discussions with the attending audience.

• Two field trips.
