Puigserrador
Proposal for a Management Custody Strategy for a Mediterranean Mountain Forest

Can Puigserrador is an agroforestry estate of 40 hectares located in the municipality of Sant Aniol de Finestres (La Garrotxa, Girona).
In 2021, the CST began collaborating with the owner to create a training and social agriculture space. The aim was to enhance ecological quality and adapt the Mediterranean mountain forest at Can Puigserrador to climate change, with the possibility of developing a collaborative custody strategy similar to the one in place for Can Poeti.
Specific objectives:

Recover the Agroforestry Mosaic: Use the agroforestry mosaic as a strategy for climate change adaptation to enhance the socioeconomic resilience of low-density rural municipalities.

Establish Experimental Estates: Create several experimental estates where the model developed at Can Puigserrador can be replicated, and develop a protocol for identifying Mediterranean mountain forests that need ecological improvement.

Develop a Training and Project Incubation Space: Create a space for training and incubating projects related to the adaptation of Mediterranean mountain forests and crops to climate change.

Educate and Raise Environmental Awareness: Educate and raise awareness among the local and regional population about the importance of climate change and its potential impacts on Mediterranean mountain forests.
Actions done:
Despite the project being unable to continue due to a change in property use priorities, the following activities were completed:
Technical Document Preparation:

Hydrogeological Characterization of the Puigserrador estate for the construction of a new water supply well (September 2022)

Developed a strategy for the custody of the estate to improve ecological conditions and adapt the Mediterranean forest to climate change (August 2022)
Organization of Meetings with Expert Sectors:

Visit and workshop at Puigserrador to assess the estate's condition (values to preserve/regenerate) and discuss possible actions for drafting a Strategic Plan (November 22th 2022)

Meeting with the Biolord Cooperative, which specializes in high-altitude apple cultivation (February 9th 2023)

Meeting with Mas Font which focuses on truffle cultivation (March 23th 2023)
